When you were born 
I was 21 and living in Springfield

I worked at Target stocking selves and helping customers when needed 
Then I worked at Cox North Hospital delivering carts and washing dishes 
Then at Shoney's washing dishes 
My last job was a Walmart gathering carts and helping customers 

Between my real jobs.  I took on a few side jobs
Bouncer at a club.  Not one of the biggest or meanest, but I had my ways
Farm hand.  Fix fence move cattle try not to get myself killed
Poet yes I know it is not really a job unless you get paid
I got paid good for my words

Then there were the stuff that just happened 
Delivery of a baby while trapped in an elevator 
Pushing people out of the way of a speeding vehicle 
Or giving CPR when needed 

My child

 Twigs for brains she said 
Kindle the fire was my response

You have twigs for brains she said 
Just call me the scarecrow I responded

She shouted you have twigs for brains 
I shouted back all the more to go insane

She said I have twigs for brains 
I learned to dance in life's rain I said

Dam you I said

She retorted you have twigs for brains 
So build a frame I suggested
