Who Laid the Giant Egg? (Short Story)

Who Laid the Giant Egg?
by Renee Moore and Tony Anderson

James turned and walked away from the window, eyes wide and mouth open,
for he saw the damage behind him… a total wreck.
He thought scenes like that only happened in movies and far away places.
He goes outside and looks around to find someone who can tell him what happened.
Gathering to the smoke like moths to light, people joined him.
He finally gets someone’s attention and asks. He says, “From the sky… so loud, bright…
it’s not right!”
  “He’s crazy,” the neighbor remarked.
James decided to find someone else who can give him more information.
“It looks like blood everywhere, James thought. “I wonder if a meat truck exploded?”
“Hey Rick!” he called to his neighbor.
“A meat truck exploded! We are still not sure why,” Rick tells him.
James heads a small zing as a tiny flaming rock falls past him from the sky.
“What the world was that?!” James exclaims.
There is a glowing orb in the sky that keeps getting bigger.
More small zings sound as tiny meteorite pieces break off the giant one hurtling toward them,
cutting through everything from trees to houses. Everyone runs for safety.
James dives into a nearby concrete ditch, being missed by mere inches.
He’s not sure what sound is worse - the hurtling, flaming fireball, or people screaming.
The big chuck finally hits the ground, and splits open to reveal
the brightest, biggest, shiniest egg anyone could have imagined.
James gets out of the ditch, cautiously walks over to it, and wonders,
“what kind of chicken laid this?” The creatures he imagines, terrifies him.
A large yellow beak pokes down from the cloudy sky.
The bird-like thing is at least 50 feet large, from beak to tail.
“Pardon me, my apologies!” it quacks. “I guess I didn’t build my nest strong enough,”
the space poultry remarks.
“No problem,” said James. “But, what are you going to do about all the damage?
Are you a golden goose?” he asks.
“Of course not”, it replies, “I’m a silver duck.
Apparently you creatures think my egg shells are very valuable,
so you may have this one once my baby hatches if you like.”
James asks, “How long before it hatches?”
“Not long,” is the reply. “Hmmm, what now?” James wonders, looking around.
“Not long can mean a couple minutes or several years to a silver duck.”
Just as those thoughts are going through his mind, he hears a cracking sound behind him.
“Well that answers that,” he laughs to himself.
The thunderous splitting of the egg is followed by a reappearance of the beak
bringing piece after piece of solid silver shell to the destruction site.
The shell is gathered up and distributed among the town’s people.
They are overjoyed at the relief the shell’s value will give them,
but still distraught by the damage and injuries the event has caused to begin with.
The space bird says to James, “ I’m very sorry for this.
I will do my very best to never let it happen again. In fact,
if you rebuild your homes in a large circle shape,
I will put a used shell in the middle of the circle each year.”
“We would enjoy that, James responded.
So, the town’s people get together to discuss the idea.
It doesn’t take long to agree to a plan, and they decide on a time and design in order to rebuild.
The only problem they have is how big to make the circle.
They look at how big the area of damages, but the bird, they name Silver Sue,
reminds them the future shells will be set down gently, not crashed.
They choose to make the circle 500 feet across. In between each yearly delivery,
the circle will be used as a roller skating rink, group tai chi classes,
and any other flat ground activities they could think of.
The town used the yearly deliveries not just for their own town, but for other towns nearby.
Many large anonymous donations were also made to charitable donations.
The eggshells were a blessing to everyone.
Sadly, this was not earth, but one can dream.

The End

Country Boy

Climbing trees
Fishing in the lake
Running through the fields
Being a country boy is fun

Come

Come travel with me upon the yellow brick road
Come travel with me to parts unknown

I Die

I die a little
Every time we part
A part of me
Fades away to nothing
As I suffer from a broken heart

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is my God and King
I will ever praise his name
He continues to make me shout and sing
This is
Why I always say

Hallelu
Hallelu
Hallelujah
Hal-le-lu-jah

Hallelu
Hallelu
Hallelujah
Hal-le-lu-jah

Love Rain

My love fall like the rain
And
Falls into a puddle in your heart

Spark Of Love

My love is the spark
That lights the flame
Within your heart

Some People Only See The Outside

Don’t look at people with just your eyes
Look at them with you heart as well
I promise you will see everyone in a whole new way
Not everyone travels upon the same road of life you do
Instead of judging try to understand

Heart Beat

Heart beat
A pounding rhythm
A sign of life
And
A sign of love

One heart beat
Two heart beats
Pounding in time with each other
Pounding out passion

Revenge

Revenge is a poison
don't let it infect you

Trapped

Trapped in a cage of emotional torement
Walled in by fear and pain

Mind

Down the dark hallways of my mind
What secrets
What horrors
Lay in the dark corners

Life

Like a roller coaster
Life has it’s ups and downs
It’s twists and turns
It’s loops

Take the ever changing tide of life
Meet it head on
When life throws you a curve
Hit a home run

Do not shrink at life’s troubles
Learn the lesson
Become stronger
Become better

Lord

Lord
Teach me
You true ways
so may walk
straight

Regret

Regret is a sour candy
A flavor no one likes

Peace

A little sanity
Within insane times
A little peace and calm
Within the chaos

Is that to much two ask
Or am I just dreaming
Is there still hope
Or is all lost

Up
Down
Left
Right
Spinning in circles

Confusion
Death
Destruction
The world turned
Upside down
Inside out

Guns being shut
People going to jail
People being locked up in their own homes
Locked up like prisoners

Freedom lost
Freedom denied
That door is shut
Shut forever

You look and you look
All you see is
Hurting
Torture
Pain
Tears

Peace is all I ask
Can we have a little

Run

Run
Faster
Faster
Feel the wind in your face
Feel the freedom of movement

Dance

Let’s dance
Share a moment in time together
Hand in hand
Step in step
Our hearts beat to the rhythm of the music

Let’s  dance
Waltzing
Twirling
Gliding
One moment in time
A lifetime of memories

I Love You

I love you
I love you
I love you

How can I be more plain
How can I make you see more clear

I’ve tried
And
I’ve tried
Everything I know
To let you see
How much you mean to me

You are my life
The very air I breathe
The very water that I drink

Without you
There is no life for me
Only darkness and decay
Only bitterness and hate

You are my stronghold
My safe haven
From life’s stormy blasts
From life’s battles

I love you
I love you
I love you

Cloudy Days

Cloudy sky
Makes me gloomy and sad
Cold wind
Chill my spine
Wet and nasty weather
Wish I could leave it all behind

Go to sunny shores
Escape
Unwind
Get out

A hug

A hug
A gesture of kindness
A show of compassion and care

Friendship
Family
Trust
Honor
Gentelness

A light in dark times
Warmth in the coldness of the world
Color
Within the grey

A hug
So simple
Yet
Says so much

Jesus Love

Jesus love is amazing
When he came and saved me
From the sin and hatred
Growing deep inside of me
Even when I lost you
Jesus helped me pull through
To become hig child
I was ment to be

Halleliujah hallelujah hellelujah
Jesus set me free
Hellelujah hallelujah hallelujah
Jesus set me free

The Dream

I go to the hoapital to get an MRI scan done.
I laid down on the table an they put me into the machine.
As I wait for the test to start, I relax myself as best I could.
But then something changes.
I feel thhe MRI machine being lowered into the floor.
As that is happening, the MRI machine starts to change it’s shape.
I soon relize that it is turning into a casket.
And that the lowering is not just into the floor, but the ground itself.
I know this because I can smell the mildew of wet sod.
Yet in all this,
I am still very much alive

Sleep

Sleep
Slumber

The troubles of the world
Locked outside
A world of your creation
Locked inside your mind

The Void

The void
The unknown
Dark and scary

To chance to partake
An adventure
A chance to stretch your limits
A chance to grow

To learn
To excell
To acheive

However
The void
Could go the other way

Death
Destruction
Damnation

The void
A mysteriuos spot
Will it lead you
To personal growth
Or
Will it lead you
To your own death

You will never know
Until you step in
The void
