Walking down the highway I see a lonely
man sitting on the roadside with his head in his hands So I asked him what’s the problem and this is
what he said
My wife left me took the car and the kids
My house burnt down and my dog is now
dead
I have nowhere to go, no shelter for my
head
So here I go on my own again
Walking through those dusty fields
Here I go where no one has been
Here I go down the road
So I turned to him and said I’d walk a
ways with him
For I have nowhere to go and no one to
turn to
I am walking to forget my troubles to
Together we picked up our packs and
walking sticks and started down the road
We walk for a ways then cut through a
cornfield filling our packs as we go.
So here we go on my own again
Walking through those dusty fields
Here we go where no one has been
Here we go down the road
Later in the evening we stopped to set up
camp
We start a roaring fire and take the corn
from our packs
We cooked an ate the corn and went to bed
In the morning I woke to find my friend
had gone
He left a note on my pack before the
breaking dawn
It said thanks for the friendship but now
I must move on
So here I go on my own again
Walking through those dusty fields
Here I go where no one has been
Here I go down the road
